Also known as a stainless steel kitchen, a stainless kitchen is made of materials that are resistant to stains and general wear and tear. A stainless kitchen is one of the easiest kitchens to maintain, but there are a few things you can do to keep it sparkling for even longer. Follow these 5 easy steps to maintain a stainless kitchen.
1. Clean stubborn fingerprints with alcohol
Fingerprints have a habit of getting everywhere in a stainless kitchen, particularly if you have lots of kids running around with grubby hands. For most prints, a good wipe with a damp cloth will do the trick. For more stubborn fingerprints, put a dab of alcohol on the cloth and they will be gone in no time.
2. Remove water stains from the stainless steel sink with white vinegar
Stainless steel sinks, like the BOHOLMEN sink from IKEA, are exceptionally hygienic, durable, and easy to clean. Over time, and depending on the hardness of the water in your area, you may find water marks begin to form on some stainless steel sinks. To easily remove these marks, apply white vinegar to the area and leave it for half an hour before thoroughly rinsing the sink with water. Hey presto, no more marks!
3. Repair scratches on stainless steel surfaces
Repairing scratches on stainless steel surfaces can be a little tricky, and if the scratches are particularly deep you would be advised to seek professional help. For minor scratches, there are things that you can do to repair them yourself. Firstly, some DIY stores sell scratch repair kits specifically for stainless steel that come with instructions. If you can’t locate a kit, then purchase a set of non-metallic surface conditioning pads with varying grades from coarse to fine. Clean the surface thoroughly and then rub the area with the pads, beginning with the coarser pad, and finishing with the most fine. Always rub the surface going with the grain. Finish it off with another thorough clean and any small scratches will have disappeared.
4. Give it extra shine with vegetable oil or lemon juice
If you’re having guests over for dinner, or if you just feel like it, a great way to give your stainless kitchen an extra shine is with a little vegetable oil or lemon juice. A good wipe over a drop of vegetable oil or a squeeze of lemon juice adds a wonderful lustre to your stainless kitchen.
