Kitchen Colour Palette

I want to use strong colour in my kitchen, but it's only small. How can I do it?

Painting just 1 wall a bold, intense shade, like a vivid green or red, not only adds colour to your kitchen without being overbearing, it increases the feeling of space as the wall appears further away.

Alternatively, add a bit of drama to your small kitchen by just having 1 cabinet door a contrasting colour to the rest; for instance, a tall, high gloss red cupboard will stand out in any white kitchen, bringing it bang up-to-date in the process. For immediate results, try adding this FAKTUM high cabinet.

My kitchen is large and seems cold. How do I make it feel warmer?
Go for the country kitchen effect; neutral tones, wooden worktops, soft, muted shades. The natural colours will add warmth to your kitchen and don't worry,  country doesn't have to mean dated.

For country kitchen style with a modern twist, see our FAKTUM/STAT kitchen.

I'm a man who does most of the cooking. I want my kitchen to reflect that. What colour scheme should I use?

Grey is a very masculine colour that works well in a kitchen, especially when teamed with chrome accessories, and it looks ultra-modern too.

Some people worry that grey is too dark for a kitchen but used with white tiles or cabinets it can look bright. However, dark kitchens aren't all bad. At IKEA you'll find a dark grey kitchen any man would be proud of: check out the super-sleek FAKTUM/NEXUS/RUBRIK kitchen.

The kitchen is the most used room in our house & we eat, work and socialise in there. What colours do you suggest we use?

Different colours can affect your mood, so it's worth thinking about how you want to feel when you're in the kitchen. As you spend a lot of time in your kitchen we suggest using reds, oranges or yellows which will give a warm, active feeling.

Don't forget you don't have to paint the walls to introduce colour to your kitchen & think about swapping cupboard doors instead. For a modern kitchen, try the high gloss red doors and drawers in our ABSTRAKT range.

I can't decide on a colour scheme and keep changing my mind. What do you recommend?

If you're the sort of person who changes their mind with the weather, why not go with a neutral kitchen and update it when you get the urge with colourful accessories?

If you have a table in the kitchen, dress it in your favourite colour of the moment using glassware, plates and cushions for the chairs, and then match coloured textiles and gadgets like oven gloves and kettles. We think any neutral kitchen will be brightened up with these pretty GLÄTTIG place mats.
