Making your table look beautiful doesn’t have to be all about confetti and wedding cakes. Christmas, Valentine’s Day, birthdays, a special dinner party – they’re all a good excuse for giving your kitchen table a makeover. But who needs an excuse? Decorating your table is good fun, any time.

What types of table decorations can I buy?

Table decorations are hugely popular and there are lots on the market that you can buy or get inspiration from to make yourself. Candles, dried and fresh flowers, confetti, glitter and edible decorations like sweets, cakes and fruit can be combined with colour co-ordinated linen and tableware to create a complete look for your table.

I want my dining table to look fabulous. Where do I start?

You might want to begin by choosing a colour theme and then choosing your table decorations to match. Warm reds, golds and greens are great for a winter table, while pastel colours or neutrals suit spring and summer. Deep reds are very romantic. For a children’s party, try vibrant primary colours. Choose your tablecloth to match your theme and build from there.

How can I use flowers in my dining table decorations?

A single gerbera or rose by everyone’s plate in an elegant vase can look fantastic.

Our TAJT vase is ideal. But cut flowers aren’t all you can use for table decorations. Try sprinkling your table with rose or hydrangea petals, or tiny dried rosebuds. There are lots of beautiful and very convincing silk and paper flowers around – or you could get creative and make some origami flowers yourself.

What party favours can I give?

Party bags aren’t just for kids – grown-ups like stuff to take home with them too. Sweets, personalised cookies, miniatures, little packs of cards, scented candles – they’re all good for party favours. There are some nice little boxes and bags that you can pop them into too.

Try sprinkling your table with sugared almonds or give your guests personalised cookies. You can put food at the heart of your table decorations: artfully arranged fruit or a cake stand with beautifully decorated cupcakes makes a great centrepiece.
